Static

Do you know what happens when the internet is down for a good chunk of your Sunday evening?

You go to bed early.

It’s absolutely amazing how much I depend on it.  Maybe even a little embarrassing.  I seriously had  nothing to do.

Except for that HUGE pile of dishes that piled up in less than 48 hours.  And the laundry I didn’t touch.

Funny how I’m crazy about picking up after myself and cleaning up any messes all week long when I’m busy, but on a weekend when I have loads of free time?  It can wait…

Either way, since I like to write at night, this may be a little short.  Which is sad, because there was so much going on yesterday.Like this sandwich.  I decided I was a little obsessed with how good my zucchini sandwich was last week and wanted to remake it. So I did.  With onions and mozzarella.  Still good.  Not as good… but I wasn’t crying about it by any means.

Exciting,  yes?  ;) And I love how my weights/resistance bands are in the background of this pic.  Unused yesterday- but still representin’.  Heeeeeyyyyy!

No workouts yesterday.  My cardio came in the form of holiday shopping.  Lifting heavy shopping bags, dodging unruly children, endurance training (standing in lines- that counts, right?)…

I’m happy to report that I at least put a dent in all that needed to be done.

Next weekend’s focus? Baking!

That’s a holiday tradition I’m a little more into.

Get your sweat pants ready.

And one more exciting tid bit of news today.  I am definitely a walking ball of static electricity.  Sparks are starting to fly and it’s making me nervous.  Because now I am no longer just a hazard to myself- but a mild annoyance to all who come in contact with me.  Great…

Any ideas of how I can use this new power for good and not evil?Happy Monday everyone!

Lazy By Any Other Name…

…would still be the definition of what I was yesterday.

After running around without a care in the world on Saturday, Sunday was a struggle.  My energy was at a steady low (as it usually seems to be on most Sundays, if we’re going to be completely honest).

That didn’t bother me so much.  Sunday is supposed to be a day of rest, right?  So I took it easy on a few of the things I normally do.

Like my running.

I did an easy 3 miles at an 8:47 pace.  My lingering headache was still there, so this was the pace I found acceptable and didn’t change it at all the entire run.  No pushing at all.  Just… going.

I also didn’t feel like being in the kitchen.

So I made a detour to Subway on my drive home after running some errands.Believe it or not, I still had a gift card to Subway from the Healthy Living Summit in August.  I like Subway- it’s just not visited often.  I rarely go out to eat anyway, and then when I do, I prefer going to local spots.

Or Buffalo Wild Wings.  Because I’m a sucker for some decent wing sauce.  The sandwich was actually the Buffalo Chicken.  It was much better than how dull it looked. Promise.

Although I do not suggest getting jalapenos as part of the mix.  I wanted spicy.  But they didn’t quite go with the rhythm of everything else going on.

You win some… you lose some.

In other news, I only have three days of work this week!  And hopefully one of those days won’t be a full 8 hours- cross your fingers for me, people!

Thanksgiving baking commences tonight.  Holla’.

And if you’re not ready for Black Friday just yet, make sure to read up Danielle’s guest post, How to Attack Black Friday.  She’ll have you in tip-top shape for the event in no time!

Still not sure if I’ll be doing any shopping on Friday.  Judging from the crowds last night and my reaction to them, I’m just not mentally ready for professional shopping yet.  I have this thing about personal space.  As in, I like having it.  So when 3 or 4 strangers took turns breathing on my neck yesterday during a 20-minute run to Target, I got a little agitated.  Imagine that.

Either way, it’s over now and Monday is here.  Let’s make an attempt at a legendary one, shall we?  :)

Everywhere and Back Again

I’m going to be cheap and use a shot of Jake Gyllenhaal naked to catch your attention:I’m not ashamed.  He is quite the handsome man.  And has come a long way from his Bubble Boy days. ;)

But yes, I just made this late breakfast. Yesterday was a whirlwind and I’m all out of whack it seems.

That can sometimes be a good thing.

I got up early for a coffee date at O’Hare with my fantabulous friend Ashlee.  She had a 4-hour layover and we were determined to take advantage of it.Hey girl… heeeeeeyyyy!

O’Hare is a huge place.  And I have no sense of direction.  So it took a bit to finally come together.  Which is sad, because I had a plan.  And a sign for when she walked out from the gate:Totally didn’t get to use it.  But it’s the thought that counts, right?

And yeah- we have nicknames.  I call her monkey and she calls me penguin.

You can try to understand our crazy if you want to.  But I don’t really even know how we became so weird…I already had breakfast, and Ashlee’s not a big breakfast person, so we split a cookie from Starbucks.  The white chocolate icing was fab.  But we both said the same thing.  Crunchy sugar cookies are not nearly as good as soft ones.  Truth.

After a couple hours, she had to leave for her flight home.  I’m being mischievous and am already coming up with ways to sabotage her next layover so she’ll have no choice but to stay in Chicago.  For good.  Muhahahaha…

I also had another friend who was in the area for the weekend from Philly.  We went to college together and there was an MU game on last night, so it only seemed natural that we made our way to The Spread (my favorite Mizzou bar in the Lincoln Park neighborhood). The three of us slowly and randomly worked our way around the city. It would have been faster had we not had a cab driver who hated life and decided to tell us why and then the other cab driver who seemed more lost than we were.

My favorite spot of the night was at Cubby Bear just outside of Wrigleyville.  The big Northwestern vs. Illinios game was played inside of Wrigley field yesterday and ESPN College Game Day had been there.  Needless to say, the streets were packed.  The bars were full.  The drinks were flowing.

The pizza was also ordered.  And demolished.

We crashed at a friend’s house (drinking and driving should never be mixed, kids!) and I woke up with a bit of a headache.  Which is somewhat surprising considering how much we ate at the end of the night.  I’m not a big believer in Advil (seriously- I’ve only stashed one or two sample packets of Advil at home from work for worst-case scenarios), so my cure came in the form of this: They should really come up with a bigger size for their iced teas.  Like a pony keg.  I’d dig it. Because this was obviously not enough (refer to coffee in the first picture that was immediately consumed after my tea was gone).

I think I have a caffeine addiction.

I also think that is not a surprising revelation.

I also think it may be time to lounge some more.  It’s Sunday.  Sundays are lazy.  Truth.

Chili Sunday

Why good morning!  Here we are again.  It’s Monday.

Did you all have a good Sunday?  I did.  Probably because it was spent being incredibly lazy.  I’ll admit it.  I didn’t get nearly as much done as I had originally set out to do.

However, the main thing did get done.

Make chili.Just a few things above are what goes into it.  What I like about my chili is I refuse to do it without two things- the hamburger and canned tomato juice.  Both have to come from my parent’s farm.  I won’t make it without.  And am very picky usually about when I order chili elsewhere.

As for what exactly goes into the stuff I make, it’s usually a little different each time.  For example- I was running extremely low on chili powder.  So I used taco seasoning while browning the meat.  I don’t care exactly what goes into the meat part,  it just has to be SPICY!  I also have a pretty heavy hand with parsley flakes, garlic powder, red chili pepper flakes and onion.  Because I want the flavor to stick with you for a while…  ;)

I also only make chili in my crock pot.  Last year I refused to make it until I had actually gotten a crock pot at Christmas.  It’s quite large.  My mom must think I feed armies in my spare time.  But whatev- it gets the job done.  The main reason I like chili in a crock pot vs the stove top is because it simmers for a few hours- and all the flavors meld together into something wonderful.

Also, I searched high and low for a good cornbread recipe because it is one of the first attempts at making cornbread completely from scratch!  Finally, I found one I figured I’d like at Smitten Kitchen for the corniest corn muffins.  The reason I went for this one simply was because I wanted to use actual corn in the recipe. The corn was sweet corn also from my parents’ garden.  I was definitely channeling my farm girl roots yesterday… Cornbread mini muffins!

Because I really did have enough chili for an army and forgot to half the cornbread recipe, I called Mon over to watch the Bears game and feast.

The game was ugly.  The food was not.Don’t forget the chedda’!  It makes everything betta’.

Afterwards, we watched a little more football while feeling like beached whales on the couch.  Just how a lazy Sunday should be, right?  ha ha…. ;)

I currently have mini muffins coming out of my ears and chili that will be transferred into the freezer for later days.

Do you have any “rules” when it comes to your favorite chili/soup?  I could probably be relaxed about the ingredients, but the crock pot is non-negotiable.

Jumping on the Pumpkin Bandwagon

I didn’t want to admit it’s actually Fall for a long time.  But several days this last week of temperatures that won’t break 70 will start to change your thinking.

And the fact that we’re now in the midst of football season (Anyone see that Chicago Bears win??  Hell yeah!).

Or the serious urge to buy every other scarf or warm-colored accessory in Target as you walk through.

Also there is the sudden overwhelming appearance of Libby’s in the stores…Yes, I joined the leagues of bloggers who picked some up over the weekend.  And decided to watch the second  half of the Bears game from my kitchen (it’s the whole can’t-sit-still thing I’ve got going on).

Because I’m severely indecisive, it took a while to narrow it down to these pumpkin chocolate chip muffins from the Pioneer Woman’s Tasty Kitchen site.  Cookies were a close runner-up.  Had I picked up two cans, not just one, I may have made both.  Because I was in the zone.

Fact- this is the first time I’ve used pumpkin in baking.

Fact- After making these, I will be one of the crazy woman hoarding cans of pumpkin at the end of the season.  Don’t say I didn’t warn you.  I’ll drop some elbows if you get in my way.  And they’re pretty boney, so watch yourself.

Anyhoo, I followed the recipe for the most part.  Except I did add more flour (maybe 1/3 cup or a little more- hardly worth mentioning).  And the can I had was 15 oz, not 16.  It looked like they were going to work out.  Then I decided the 400 degrees it called for was a little crazy and would only cause me to burn each batch, so I just lowered it to about 375 and baked them a little longer instead. It worked.  I’m no muffin expert like Kelsey, but I think they turned out fabulously.  Not overly sweet, but still enough to take care of a dessert craving.  It’s also not an overwhelming pumpkin taste- which works for me. Putting up shots of my muffins makes me feel like Betty White on Saturday night live…This skit made me laugh more than anything I’ve seen on SNL in a long time.  Just short of rolling on the floor.

Question: Pumpkin Pie vs. Pecan Pie.  Which would you rather?  Pecan Pie is by far my favorite.  Probably because the sugar content is also the highest.  That makes sense.

But anyways… moving on…

I pretended like these were also my reward for my run yesterday.  It’s no secret I was feeling pretty “blah” about my recent gym sessions.  Finally, yesterday I felt good.  The whole time.  My plan said to do 8, but I just went in and said I’d do whatever I felt- as long as it were over 5.  So there was a compromise in the middle of that at 6.5 with an average pace of 8:27.  I walked out happy.  And didn’t feel like I had to push myself to get through it.

My only “issue” was that the bandaid covering my little blister I gave myself last week.  At some point, the bandaid slipped and snuck out of my shoe.  I’ll spare you the details, but it seems like I may have to buy some that are a little more sweat proof… and also bleach the back of my shoe.  Or at least take a laundry stick to it.

Blood loss aside, it was a relaxing Sunday.  Much needed.  Much appreciated. Already much missed.

I hope you guys enjoyed football Sunday as well- and welcome to Monday!  :)

More Sweetness

So… how ya doin’?

Enjoying your Monday morning?  It seems your coffee’s getting a little cold and low.  You can go grab some more.  I’ll wait.

…. yeah, I grabbed some more, too.

Thanks for all the nice compliments on the baby shower cake I made Friday night.  I really do love baking.  Quite a few people have asked if I’d ever go into “the business”.  My answer to that is definitely NO.  Granted, I have no problems doing it for friends or people who ask from time to time. But never on a regular basis.  I think it would ruin the fun.  Because I’m usually wiped for a while after a big “order”.

And I would probably end up eating 10 pounds of buttercream on a weekly basis.  If we’re being completely honest.

Anyways, don’t think I’m done talking about sugar just yet.  Because my breakfast yesterday was actually lunch and definitely a BBQ sandwich, I had breakfast for dinner.  If you know me, this isn’t really that uncommon.  I often have eggs for dinner.  But what about pancakes?Yeah, that’s right.  Want another look? Those are cinnamon roll pancakes.  In efforts to find an interesting new spin on my occasional pancakes, I ran across these at Big Red Kitchen.  I’ve been holding on to the recipe for a while.  Then today I just couldn’t take it anymore!  They seriously look like cinnamon rolls, right?

Of course I put my own spin on it.  Mostly because of lack of ingredients.  I used my Trader Joe’s multi-grain pancake mix- looking back, I think making her version of the pancakes may have been more fitting.  But whatev.  I still added a little powdered sugar to the pancake mix and it was over the top indulgence!  My icing that I used was a really simple combo of milk and powdered sugar.  That’s how my grandma used to make it.  :)

One thing to be careful about?  Well… when you put the “filling” in the pancake, it does come out a bit when you flip it.  And if you let it sit there for the next round, it will most definitely burn.  So watch out for that.

Moving on… because I was still a bit tired from my night out on Saturday, I kept the workout light.  Which was how my Sunday was supposed to be anyways.  I did a slow 2 miles and walked another couple.  Then I did a little yoga, but about half way through I stopped and said “no Jillian, I’ve had enough today”.  I’m sure she’ll make me pay for that later.

Can you believe I almost forgot about the Emmy’s last night?  I just wanted to say congrats to MODERN FAMILY!  It was by far my favorite show all last season and I can’t wait for it to be back!  Also, JIM PARSONS won for playing Sheldon in Big Bang Theory!  My friend Ashlee and I texted each other immediately in excitement.  I still very much heart Sheldon.  :)

What show are you looking forward to this fall?  Modern Family and Big Bang Theory are the two I go out of my way for.  There are others… but they’re by far my favorites.

Alright- I gotta go and get this party started.  Have a good day!

Bonnie Hunt Used to Babysit Me

Hello kids!  Welcome to Monday.  I’m having a hard time accepting my little vacation is over, but life must go on, right?

In all the excitement about discussing my trip to Washington DC, I didn’t get the time (or want to give you the longest post of all time) to discuss Saturday night’s festivities.  Like I mentioned earlier, I got home Saturday evening.  I hadn’t made any definite plans because I didn’t know what my energy level would be.  It wasn’t high, but I marched on.  And squeezed in a quick workout and then showered and was off to see a new favorite local band at Durty Nellie’s.  I went with my posse of lovely neighbors- Mon and Bailey.

Yes- we’re considering ourselves groupies. We LOVE Rod Tuffcurls and The Benchpress.  There.  I said it.  But wouldn’t you love a crazy band that plays the most random of covers and parties it up like this:

Yep.  Sexy gym shorts.  And a sweet tan line.  Rarr….  But in all seriousness, they’re soooo good.  And the stage presence just heightens it all.  We rocked out all night to great hits such as The Distance (by Cake- anyone remember them?  They were a staple of my junior high days), 500 Miles, Semi-Charmed Life, and even All I Want For Christmas (The fact that it’s August is a non-issue).

None of us were really there to hunt out boys.  But they happened to find us.  My favorite was what poor Bailey endured- a creeper who wouldn’t leave her alone and used the fact that Bonnie Hunt used to babysit him as a pickup line.  Seriously.  And then, after using his claim to fame, we called him out on it by not knowing of the movie Beethoven.  How can he not remember???  Bailey said, “how can you not know that movie?!?!  You’re dead to me!” and walked away.  Good girl.  :)Cheers!

Because we were out until the wee morning hours and I had Text Fest 2010 until I fell asleep with the phone in my hand (maybe that means I lost?), I woke up not feeling overly rested.  Which led to a day inside.  Lounging.  I assume my body also wanted to counterbalance my days of walking all over Washington DC.  Seems fair.

I did make it to the gym eventually.  I got in a 2-mile run and 15 minutes on the elliptical.  Considering the long night I had the night before, I call this a success.  Even though I do recognize my need for a workout schedule.  I conformed.  And now that I’m just winging it, I’m feeling myself starting to struggle.  That means one goal for the week will be creating one for me that will get me through until my next official round of “training”.  Do you do better with a schedule or do you just do your own thing when it comes to working out?

After the workout, I finally managed to shower and get out into the real world to get some grocery shopping done.  When out, I knew I’d be picking up something to eat versus making something myself.  It was just that kind of a day.  My options were two extremes- salad bar at Whole Foods and mexican thanks to a Chipotle coupon I was yet to use.  I wanted them both- but figured it best to not be greedy.  The salad bar won me over in the end.  So I headed to Whole Foods with visions of all the wonderfulness that is Whole Foods.

The salad bar was bare.  Maybe they always close it early on Sunday (not sure?) or they had it down for some other reason, but I was sad.  And pouted.  Because I spent all that time weighing my options.  For what?!?!  Nothing…

Off to Chipotle I went.At least I had a coupon.

I picked up a chicken burrito.  Warning- I’m not the biggest fan of Chipotle.  And this is the first time I’ve gone in probably four or five years.  But who am I to pass up free food?

It wasn’t bad.  The chicken wasn’t the best and it was my fault for not telling him to chill out on the rice, but I do give their guac a two thumbs up!

It was a great weekend all in all.  But I do have to say, I was sad to miss out on the bachelorette festivities of my lovely friend Ashlee.  :(  She had a girls weekend planned in Mid-MO that I missed out on because I had the family vacation going on and wouldn’t have been able to get back to where they are until super late Saturday night (Mid-MO is not very accessible unless you’re cool with jumping out of a plane as it makes it’s way across the state).  But she said it was a great time and I seriously cannot wait for her wedding that is only a month away!!!

Tonight I’ve got a special meet-up with a fellow blogger from Healthy in Chicago that I’m pretty excited about.  Yes, that means it’s one more day of not unpacking.  Pretty convenient if you ask me…  ;)

Have a good day!

Faking it

Ah Monday.  I’d be lying if I said it’s great to see you, but our meeting once again is inevitable so I will tolerate you the best that I can.  At least this is another super busy week in the office.  Hopefully my head doesn’t explode.  No worries, I hear that’s almost impossible and hardly ever happens.

Although after a super non-busy weekend, it wouldn’t be a surprise.

I hope you all had a great Father’s Day weekend.  I was not able to travel back to Mid-Missouri to see my pops, but we had a few telephone conversations and it sounded like he had a good one.  So that’s good to know.  :)

After my long run on Saturday and pure laziness that followed the long run, I had a serious craving for BBQ.  As you may know, I do not actually own a grill (I’m pretty sure it’s prohibited at my building, even if I do smell burgers on the grill coming from somewhere on occasion).  So when I feel the need for BBQ, I either get carryout or fake it.

This weekend I faked it with a BBQ chicken wrap.It was oven baked BBQ.  So even if it looked like the real stuff, it wasn’t.  But even if it was fake, it was still ridiculously good.  And messy.  Luckily, no one was around, so I didn’t really care that I got it all over myself.

Sunday was just as, if not more, lazy than Saturday.  Yoga was the only real thing I had on my schedule.  I’m sure you all are going to be quite thrilled to hear I am getting that much better at crow pose.  I held it for over 5 seconds.  If you’ve done this pose, or have the sad upper body strength that I have, you’ll know how thrilled I was about it.  Soon… soon I will OWN that pose…

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, this is what it looks like (done by a girl way better than me obviously):That’s Jenna over at Eat, Live, Run and she pretty much is awesome at yoga (this pic is from her blog, so check her out!).  Maybe one day I’ll do umm…. half of what she can…  :)

Until then, I’m trying to not get cocky about my 5 seconds of coolness.  Otherwise, I’m afraid it’ll be like the time I said I’d do the half marathon.  I’ll have one drink too many, attempt this, and end up at the ER with a broken face.  No good!

Monica came back from her vacation on Sunday with this little surprise:Apologies for the fuzzy crackberry pic.  But it was exactly what I thought it would be.  Sweet yet sassy.  Just like me.  :)  We both approved.

After work I’m SUPPOSED to go out running.  Uh…. Well at least it’ll be a nice, sunny rest day on Thursday.  Geez.  Will today finally be the day I have to reside to the treadmill for more than just 2 miles?  Oh say it isn’t so!  I knew it was only a matter of time- I had lucked out for six weeks now, except for one little sudden downpour incident.  Hopefully my teeny tiny work out room won’t be too busy with weight slammers and such.

Either way, if I must do the treadmill, I must.  I’ll take down 4.5 miles and smile the whole time.  Because I’m good at faking it.  ;)

That’s what she said.  (Thought I’d save you the trouble of having to type it out…)

Happy Monday!

Semi-Recovery Day

Thanks for all the sweet comments everyone- I was so happy everything turned out and that Jaime and Scott were happy with the end result of the cake.  Hooray!  And thanks for the compliments on the dress- first J.Crew purchase I ever made.  Last year.  Final clearance.  BAM!  :)  Did I ever mention when it comes to shopping, I’m a recessionista?  I totally consider Target as “designer”.  For future reference…

Sunday was wonderful.  Originally, I had said that I wanted to sleep through the entire morning and pretend it just didn’t exist.  Be lazy and lay around in bed the entire time.  Obviously, you know me and this did not happen.  It never does.  Although it’s a fun idea in theory.

This doesn’t mean I didn’t lay back down.  Because I did.  And woke up sweating my butt off.  At some point, the weather decided to get crazy and all the sudden it was 85 and sunny outside.  85!  Luckily, I woke up right around the time for optimal sun exposure on my teeny tiny balcony.  So I sat outside and caught up with some friends and my parents while soaking in a little sunlight.  Using spf of course.

Yesterday was a yoga day on my training schedule.  But since I’ve been ignoring The Shred recently, I also threw in Level 1 along with some Yoga Meltdown.  Because I’m just crazy like that… ;)

Now that the wedding weekend is over, I’m back to my regular routine and “veggie detox”.  It’s always refreshing to have a day of somewhat cleaner eats.  I say “somewhat” just to cover my ass.  I’m very much a work-in-progress.    Spinach and mushroom sammy with zucchini and yellow squash.  Let’s say it together.  “Ahhhh.”

Here’s where the “somewhat” comes in.  I discovered that I accidently forgot about the couple scotcheroos that didn’t fit into some of the tupperware for last night… I wasn’t disappointed that I found them.  The little things that put a smile on my face… as I completely finished them off.  All at once.  Good work, Amy.

Embarrassingly enough (along with my binge of scotcheroo fabulousness), I barely left my apartment all day.  So when I went to get something out of my car, I realized the Sunday paper was waiting for me.  Now this was surprising.  Because lately, someone’s been stealing my paper.  Not during the week- just on Sundays.  Which is frustrating.  Especially when I run down early in the morning and it’s already nowhere to be found.  I don’t always have time to read the Sun Times during the week but I LOVE my Sunday paper.  I mean- hello!  If anything, the ads alone are worth it!  Apparently someone else in my unit thinks so as well.  So I’ve gotten used to only reading it every other week or so.  But I caught up on my reading over dinner:Go Hawks! Dinner was small due to the amount of snackage that happened between the two meals.  But I brought back the TJ’s pizza sauce to mix with spinach and cheddar for my pretend pizza.  :)

What else did I do yesterday?

Realized once again there’s a reason I think Jersey Shore is stupid (did anyone else see there was a marathon of it on?).  Geez…

Contemplated vacuuming but took another nap on my couch instead.

Contemplated doing laundry but caught up on my google reader instead.

Contemplated being semi-productive in any way at all and then just said screw it.

And that’s about it.  So I wasn’t the most exciting person.  I was drained.  Although I had a cocktail and a half, I felt like I had been out all night with pitchers in each hand.  But nope.  I’m just getting old… eek!

Welcome back to the work week.  Five days until a three-day weekend!

Jaime’s Wedding Cake Finale

I’m on a baking hiatus.  For an undetermined amount of time.  Or at least until my heart beat returns back to normal levels when all the sugar gets out of my system.

I was so busy with baking and other things, that I feel I’ve been behind for days on posting/reading.  My google reader is making me somewhat anxious, but I’m slowly reading through- I try not to miss anything!

Anyways, let’s go back to Friday night, shall we?  Mon was a godsend.  After a nice little sweat session in the workout room (seriously, poor air circulation and rainy weather creates severe humidity/stankness in the gym.  No bueno.  I started the white cake and had it in the oven by the time Mon came over.  She had volunteered to help.  I don’t think she knew what she was getting herself into.  I pretty much put her in charge of the cake bites.  Their working name was “balls”, so you can imagine how many balls jokes flew around my apartment that night.  Yes, we’re both turning 13 in July, in case you’re wondering.  Oh balls…

After the bites were done, I continued on with my work on the last tier of the cake.  Mon started doing dishes.  And just so you think I’m not a dictator in the kitchen, I told her to stop with the dishes and just sit and talk to me while I finish up, but she insisted.  I turn around and keep working.  I turn again, and she has my entire stovetop disassembled and is scrubbing the drip pans.  “MON!  What are you doing?!?!”  She’s sort of OCD when it comes to cleaning.  And believe it or not, enjoys it.  I told her to stop.  And, I kid you not, she said “don’t you dare take this away from me!  I’m loving this!”  I’m considering letting her attack my bathroom soon…

I ran out of powdered sugar around 11:00.  This was fine. Because I had been able to dirty ice almost everything and all that was left was the final icing and starting to decorate.  No probs.  Mon and I had a sweet buzz going on from the sugar and wine.  I highly recommend it.  Another friend from the complex/workout room came over as well.  He put in his two cents as he watched us work.  I told him to stop being sassy.  He asked if “sassy” was my way of saying stop being an asshole.  I said yes it was.

My epic mistake came with staying up until after 3:00 that night.  Another friend of mine stopped by after he had been out celebrating a birthday.  We caught up, but my issue with not being able to sleep in definitely let me know how bad of an idea this really was.

Because I still had to run.  And I did.  It was a slightly miserable run.  I was tired and bogged down.  Diet really does effect exercise.  And when your diet sucks for a few days, so does your exercise routine.  Not a lie.  Four miles in the schedule.  I had wanted to do five.  My body and I compromised at 4.25.  Eh.

The rest of Saturday was filled with finishing all the baking, getting ready, transporting, and then enjoying the wedding reception.  And because all of ya’ll asked- let’s look at some pictures.Cake bites!  Don’t they look cute???  I even showed Monica how to drizzle my balls with chocolate.  Yeah… Amy is 13.At some point on Friday night.  I was freaking out and not sure how I was going to fit everything.  We were going to take stuff to Mon’s house when we discovered my crisper.  Uh… yeah, totally forgot about it.  Clearly I never use it.  So all my food is jammed into the crisper at the moment.A little boo boo.  Turns out buttercream works as glue, too.  Shhh…Slowly coming together…Buckle up, kids!  This was by far the most stressful part of the week.  Not kidding.  A shell rolled off the top of one of the cakes and I heard it drop and I almost had a heart attack.  Grandmas were flipping me off as I took my time in the slow lane.  Turns were heart stopping.  I think I aged five years on that drive…

But I made it.  And was able to have it almost completely set up before Jaime and Scott got to the restaurant.  All together now….I am done.  And they loved it!  It was a real accomplishment.  And I was happy to do it.  Because Jaime and Scott have been so wonderful to me since I’ve moved up.  They really took me in and make me feel like family.  I love them both dearly and am so happy for them! Congrats guys!  :)

The reception was great.  It was held at Vines on Clark, right across the street from Wrigley Field (it was an away weekend for the Cubs).  It was a gorgeous day, and the reception was held in an area in a private part of the restaurant with a patio.

It was an appetizer reception with some of their favorites from the restaurant.  Toasted ravioli, coconut shrimp, and build-your-own-nachos.  The toasted ravioli kind of made me want to pass out and go to my happy place.  It was stuffed with pepperjack cheese- which I had never had, but wow.  Now I’m ready for food detox…

I didn’t partake too much in the drinking.  Mostly because I was driving.  I was offered a place to stay, but I really just wanted to go home later that night and sleep in my own bed and just crash for as long as possible.

Expect me to be lazy for the majority of the day.  I earned it.  :p
