More Randomness For The Files

1. I hate packing peanuts. They’re awful. Why not bubble wrap? It doesn’t make a mess and is fun to pop. It’s the obvious way to go. But packing peanuts? They make a mess of my work area. And when they’re not all over the place, they’re clinging to my pants, my top, or whatever else on my person. Much like my last boyfriend. I didn’t like it then and I don’t like it now. STOP WITH THE PACKING PEANUTS!

2. My college friend is coming tonight to stay with me through the weekend. He doesn’t care if my place is dirty (trust me- I’ve seen his and that would be highly hypocritical), but yet things needed to be done before his arrival. Laundry, cleaning, grocery shopping, etc. Which means the entirety of this week has been meticulously planned out.

Something I didn’t plan for? Cubs/Sox/Bulls/Blackhawks traffic. An extra 30-45 minutes spent on the interstate each night is really screwing this up.

It’s also screwing with my sanity, but at this point, that’s a non-issue.

3. My obsessively planned out week has left me with no time to watch the newest episodes of New Girl and Modern Family, along with a few others I don’t care to admit I tape on a weekly basis. This saddens me. #FirstWorldProblems

4. Another thing that saddens me? A zit on my cheek. Seriously. My cheek? GET OFF OF MY FACE.

Excuse me while I go drown it in zapzit.

5. Baking happened last night. We’ll discuss that later. But the sugar high may or may not have been the reasoning for nonsleep and the lackluster workout this morning. It was less than stellar, but I guess it’s better than hitting snooze and turning over. Which was an option I weighed heavily. 20 minutes on the stairmill and a 1-mile run before saying screw it and going home to finish out with a few circuits of No More Trouble Zones by Jillian.

So at least it was something (with weights!).

That means I can eat more baked goods, yes?

6. Last night also marked a momentous occasion. Remember how I talk about my parents supplying me with food from the garden back home? One of the things they hauled up was a big box of sweet potatoes. Each one being the size of my arm. Last night marked the end of those sweet potatoes.

Asparagus grilled cheese and sweet potatoes. I used a slice of Munster and some crumbled feta for the sandwich. Not sure if cheese experts would approve or not, but it's what I had on hand. And I liked it. So whatev.

It’s amazing I haven’t turned orange.Which is unfortunate. Because Pauly D is cute and I need to attract his attention somehow…

7. I have had the worst time trying to track down a copy of 50 Shades of Grey. Or at least a free copy (I’m looking at you, Chicago Public Library.) Apparently we all have dirty minds and need to read this book. Like now.

8. The phrase “This is my Friday!” really rubs me the wrong way. It was really only amusing the first 50 times I saw it as an update on facebook.

Ok, actually, it never really was.

However, if I were to consider using it, today would be a good day.

I think you know where I’m going with this.

Extended weekend. Holla’.

Random Thoughts For Your Weekend

1. Hocking up loogies in the break room is frowned upon.

2. No really. It is. So don’t do it over and over again. I’m serious.

3. I don’t think I’m going to believe Punxsutawney Phil this year. He can suck it. Because I’m looking forward to spring. And also because it was forecasted that this would be the worst winter Chicago has seen in decades and I’m yet to see any real evidence of this (knock on wood).

4. Rarely do I comment on my stance on political issues and controversial things of that nature, but I’m rather saddened and disappointed with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. There’s a common goal involved. Makes sense to work together, yes? I just don’t understand how you can achieve the goal of “a world without breast cancer” unless you plan on attempting to help everyone trying to prevent it.

5. Tonight I’ll be spending my night prepping for tomorrow’s big rivalry game: Mizzou vs. KU! What does this include? Running by the grocery store for a bottle of bubbly and baking donuts. Sure, the game isn’t until 8:00 pm, but hey- tradition is tradition. Brunch time is set for much later than usual, but it’s still brunch. And that is what matters.

6. I found vh1’s The TRL Decade as I was at the gym last night doing my elliptical/stairmill combo (20 on each). It was a look back to highlights and the significance of TRL over its time on the air. It made me reminisce. And it made me feel super old.

7. Personally, I think closely tailing people in traffic is SUPER annoying. But the opposite is just as bad, if not worse. Why? Because when the person in front of you has about 15 feet in between them and the next car and about 10 cars sneak their way into your lane in front of them on your 7-mile trip on the interstate? It’s easy to get frustrated.

In summary?

Also:

Mizzou rocks.

As does Friday. Go get your party on.

Adjusting

I feel like I spent the majority of it staring into cardboard boxes.

Luckily this means I’m pretty well established in the new place. Sadly, this means I’m saying good bye to the old place.

The only place I’ve stayed more than one year at since starting college. I’m like a gypsy. With shoes.

The movers came bright and early on Saturday morning. Like everything else with this transition from one place to the other, our start time was changed and things were thrown off. In this case, from 9:00 to 7:00 in the morning. Yes, that means I was up by 5:00 getting as much done as I could before they arrived.

If my neighbors didn’t hate me already, they do now- those guys were fast but NOISY. And at that time in the morning, I’m truly surprised someone didn’t walk out of their apartment and start throwing things at me. Oh well.

The good thing about bumping up their arrival time by two hours means we were done two hours earlier. Well, not done so much as we were able to collapse on the couch about two hours earlier.

Look what Bailey’s boyfriend sent both of us as a housewarming gift:An Edible Arrangement!

So cute! And so thoughtful! It’s just really unfortunate I don’t  like fruit… :(

It’s ok- I lived vicariously through Bailey as she ate part of it for dinner.

Eats have been strange over moving weekend. But then again, so has everything else.

The bathroom on the main level (mine) is being completely renovated and won’t be done until tonight. This means I have to go to the basement level to use my roommate’s. And I live upstairs on the second level/attic. Just this morning I think I climbed up and down the stairs 15 times as I don’t have a new routine in place.

Guess I won’t miss the gym’s stairmill that much afterall?

Other things worth noting:

- We have a gas stove. This will take some getting used to once again. Not really complaining. Just adding it to the list of changes.

- We have no ice maker. After dealing with this twice before, how did I not check for this??? Not that it would have broken the deal. I would have just known sooner. So really, maybe this isn’t worth mentioning?

- My face has not seen makeup since Friday. The skin has no clue what’s going on right now.

- Since I live in the “attic” level (I have slanted ceilings and everything), I live directly under the roof (duh). When laying in bed awake but not “up” on Sunday morning, I heard critters. A stream of inappropriate words went through my mind as I pictured mice taking over my bedroom. Turns out, I just have a very social group of squirrels living in the trees around me. I’m fine with this as of now. They’re not IN the house. They haven’t woken me up yet. They don’t terrify me. So far so good.

- When it comes to mileage, the commute is almost half of what I am used to. HOWEVER, it takes just as if not 10-15 minutes longer. So that’s neat.

- When walking around the neighborhood, I noticed pub/tavern signs for specials throughout the week. I should really stop noticing those…

And speaking of sweetness, check out what my friend Annie did:Her new favorite hobby includes the use of a breadmaker. So not only did she help to move a pantry (forgot to have the movers grab it- grrrr!) and other odds and ends that didn’t make the cut on Saturday, she also baked bread for me. My friends are too wonderful.

Seriously- I have no idea how people do this moving thing by themselves.

Annie also made and painted those two mugs herself. She was an Art major in college and could not believe I still didn’t have some of her stuff. I couldn’t either. It’s cute and I secretly really wanted some. ;)

Alright everyone, it’s time to stop messin’ around and get to work. It’s the one thing in my routine that has stayed the same. Laters!

Something For Everyone

I’m all over the place today.  But hopefully there’s at least one thing that will entertain you…

Workout…

Well, I’m back on the strength training kick.  I did a round of The Shred before hitting the gym to elliptical and stair climb my way to exhaustion. After spending 20 minutes on the elliptical, exhaustion is located on floor 46 of the stairmill, in case you were wondering.

I finished with a few exercises with free weights.  I did them in front of the mirror so I could keep a watchful eye on the man who tends to talk to himself while working up a sweat.  I’m not sure what he says (insert ipod), but he does it often.  Sometimes shaking his head.  I assume it’s in disagreement/agreement to whatever is coming out of his mouth.

Needless to say, he makes me nervous.

Food…

Turns out I’m not the only one who goes for the peanut butter sandwiches as a meal backup option.  I guess we’ve all got the kid inside of us, huh?

The kid inside of me was still in carb comatose from the day before, so the adult had the final say on yesterday’s eats.

Yep, salad for both dinner and lunch yesterday.  Hello green… I’ve missed you.

Thought I’d also make mention of what I’m currently reading at the moment.  I finished Chelsea Handler’s My Horizontal Life what seems like ages ago.  I loved it just as much as the other two books of hers.

Seriously Chelsea, where’s book 4?!?!  Because this book I’m currently reading is NOT cutting it.  After listening to the “recommended reading”, I checked out Tucker Max’s I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell.  I’m almost too embarrassed to say I’m actually reading it.  I thought it’d be amusing- which it is.  Because I cannot believe that anyone can be that obnoxious.  He’s horrible.  And raunchy.  And over the top.  And ridiculous.  But I can’t stop reading the stupid thing.

I do NOT recommend this book.  Let’s make that clear.  But I hate not finishing something I started.  So until then, I’ll keep blushing while reading it at the lunch table.  Because until I’m done with this book, it looks like my mind will reside in the gutter.

Fashion…

I ran to Target yesterday to pick up a couple things and ended up strolling through the women’s section (yeah, I do clothes shopping at Target- holla’).  Even tried some stuff on.  But this is where the frustration begins.  I am a half size.  In everything.  My favorite shoes?  A perfect 8.5 glides on like I’m Cinderella.  My ring size is 6.5.  Hey boys- remember this.  So you can imagine my frustration in the small/medium/large sizing.  I’m a perfect smedium.  Do they make that anywhere?  I’d pay good money for it…

Because I’m a sucker for endcaps at Target, I picked up a new nail color while I was there.

Funny, because I could usually care less about my nails.  The fingernails are never painted.  Ever.  And if they are, it’s clear.  So why did I do this?Maybe this is how I decided to communicate my quarter-life crisis?  Sounds about right.  Some people travel… buy cars… jewelry they can’t afford… I buy nail polish. This is what a quarter-life crisis on a budget looks like.  Take note.

I did my toes, too.  But I hate feet and refuse to show you how they turned out.

What do you think, Vince?  Yeah, I know the edges still need to be cleaned up.  Don’t be so critical.

My big fail was painting them in the middle of doing laundry.  Way to go, genius…

In Other News…

The one thing that has made my week just awesome?  They reopened a lane of traffic on the interstate I use daily.  What does this mean for me?  10 minutes less spent on the road on my way home.  10 minutes.  For the 1-2 mile stretch that was being worked on.

It’s the little things in life…

Alright kids, I have a lot to do before the end of the day.  That way, I can enjoy play time tonight a little more without having to worry as much about what’s going on tomorrow.

That’s right.  Play time. We’re breaking up the week a little.  It’s like a throwback to the good ol’ Thirsty Thursdays in college… yes?

Rush Hour

It’s Friday!

And October!  Ahhh… I cannot believe it’s actually October.  I’m starting to see aisles of Christmas decorations getting snuck in behind the Halloween aisles.  Jump the gun much?

Last night I had my night off.  This was good.  I got a little frustrated out of boredom at some point, but relaxing for a night versus running around getting stuff done was a welcome change.  I slacked on cleaning.  But seriously, who cares?  It’ll be there for me tonight if I feel the urge.

I think part of the reason why I just decided to do absolutely nothing is that I am slowly falling angry victim to all that is known as Chicago traffic.  It’s tragic, folks. All summer I was patient. All. Summer.  I think that’s fair- and very big of me.  But me spending time in traffic, to exit off that busy highway where I’m going 20 mph to merge into more traffic going 10 mph?  Really?  My patience has a limit.  I sit there and think about the extra 15 minutes a day it takes to get to work.  And from work.  That’s a half hour a day.  2.5 hours a week.  That’s 2.5 hours that I could actually be doing something.  Or nothing.  Whatever.  But the point is, that is 2.5 hours I should not be spending in my car.  Deep breathing.  Lots of it.  But somedays, I still sit in that parking lot we know as the interstate and want to scream.  Yesterday was one of those days.  BLAH.

Rant over.

Whew.  I just got really worked up for a second.

I hadn’t planned on going “there”.  But yeah… that’s what’s up.

I did have a good day before my little moment of rage.

For instance, I finished my book, How Did You Get This Number?:I’m pretty sad it’s done.  Sloane Crosley has an awesome writing style.  I love how she can draw humor out of the most random everday situations.  Her humor is not blatant and in your face.  Rather, I started laughing out loud (yes, by myself in the cafeteria) with her subtle remarks about things I could easily relate to (such as the chapter about the range and number of pets she had).

Definitely one of those girls that, as you’re reading it, you’re sure you’d have a lot of fun having cocktails with.  So um… hey Sloane- let’s be friends…  :)

While we’re discussing my lunch break, let’s also talk about how I also reintroduced edamame into my life.  I don’t remember the last time I had it.  I’m also not quite sure why I stopped eating it.  Edamame is one of my favorite things to throw in a salad.  It’s easy protein.  And it’s delicious.  So… welcome back!

What’s the last food you went on a “phase” with?  I had the asparagus thing going on for a while.  Now that it’s well out of season, I’m much more picky about buying it.

Another good moment was break time…I passed up water for a little diet coke action this afternoon.  I’m going through a spell with it (can I blame the traffic on this one? hmmmm…).  And Target got me again with their random clearance endcaps.  Who can pass up a whole sleeve of fun size $100 Grand bars for 84 cents?  Not this girl.

This made me happy.  Maybe I should keep my candy in the car to counteract rush hour frustrations?

Anyhoo, hopefully today goes well.  Nothing like smooth sailing into the weekend.  I’ve got a lot going on (once again), but have kept tonight as a night in.  Mostly for energy reasons (tomorrow is a long day).  But others may argue it’s also for sanity reasons.  Whatev.  I’m going to enjoy it.

What’s the thing you’re most excited for this weekend?

Have a good one, kids!

A Wedding Weekend

I made it back alive!

Just barely… Saturday was a marathon day to say the least.  But every minute of Ashlee’s wedding was so much fun!Ready to start taking pictures… this was  one of a million.  I don’t know about Ashlee, but I wasn’t this fresh faced the entire day… enjoy it while you can.  :)The ceremony went so smoothly.  The only hangup was the issue of if the little ring bearers and flower girls would make it down the aisle.  Or not cry.  Or stay at the front and not run back.  It was really touch and go.  I think 2 of the 4 made it the full way.

Also check out the one candle that is slowly slipping.  This caused us bridesmaids much distress.  Burning down an old church would be frowned on, I’m sure.We went down to Ashlee’s house to take pictures.  I can’t wait to see all the professional ones- Ashlee was seriously ON IT when it came to fun wedding party pics.

How did we get to Ashlee’s house you ask?  Well….In St. E style of course… In a pinch, Ashlee’s brother came up with the brilliant idea of throwing us all on the back of a truck.

We worked the wind-blown look very well.

I may have busted my knee getting on to said truck, but nothing to cry about.  I’m waiting to see how well the bruise develops.  ;)  All this yoga I’ve been doing- still as clumsy as ever… fail.My mom and I.  After we got back from pics, everyone hung out outside in the church yard where there’s a pavilion that the bartenders reside.  Seagrams and Bud Light.  Holla’.Here’s an example of the centerpieces.  I adored Ashlee’s style.  Very country chic.  Simple and elegant.  You could tell the whole wedding was in the style of the bride and groom.  Nailed it!  :)One thing I liked about this wedding was that Ashlee’s not big into cake- so they did wedding pie.  It went really well with the theme of the wedding.  Ignore the beer can in the picture.  I’m 99% positive it wasn’t part of the display…

There was also an ice cream bar that went along with it.  You can bet your booty I went for tons of sprinkles on my brownie (since I don’t really do pie…).

My friends who know about the blog asked if I took pics of my food.  I laughed. Of course I did!

There was fried chicken and beef.  I went with the beef on recommendation from another bridesmaid.  She  has her mom special order the stuff from the caterer (their cousin) and freeze it so she can take it home with her after she visits.  I can see why.  It was amazing.

And of course it’s not a St. E wedding without a proper wedding dance.  I did not want to let go of that beer can, did I?  For the record, I’m pretty sure it was the same one in about a hundred pictures… towards the end of the night, I was just exhausted!

All in all, a great weekend back home to celebrate my good friend’s wedding!  The only awkwardness was when I ran into my date from Senior Prom who happened to be the DJ.  Random…

Yesterday was the drive home.  It really is an all day affair.  I also made it a Panera day.Correction… St. Louis Bread Co.  (It’s actually still called that in the St. Louis area vs. Panera everywhere else.)

I stopped here for another round of driving with giant iced teas.  It only caused one extra potty break (I’m getting better!).And then I figured I’d make it a double whammy later on by stopping at Panera for a Turkey Bravo.  It’s my favorite sandwich there.  We don’t discuss calories when it comes to Panera- just goodness.  :)

Considering I was lacking sleep and energy, the drive was not too bad until about an hour away from home. This is the story of my life.

But clearly I made it.  And am ready for the full work week ahead.  Sort of.  It’s a little daunting, but I’m sure I’ll get through!  ;)

How was your weekend?  My google reader is exploding, so I’m sure I’ll find out at some point in the day…

While I have the chance, I’ll also say thanks again to Mon for doing a guest post over my busy weekend!  If you didn’t catch it, feel free to read it by clicking here!

Have a great start to the week!  I’ll be spending the day working and trying to get back into my routine- oh joy!

Just so you know…

Hey guys!  I’m glad you liked the shoes!  They’re not Hurricanes (which seem quite popular around the blogs) but they’re Progrid Omni 9’s.  I’m excited to let you know how they work out!  :)

Where did I spend a good portion of last night?  In here:Just so you know, I’m not having stomach issues.  Or taking in too much fiber.

I was cleaning.  But thanks for the concern.  I have houseguests this week and even if my bathroom looks innocent enough, it really is THIS close to being taped off with biohazard tape by the government.  My friends that read this will probably never come visit me again.  Crap…

I’m a huge fan of “shallow cleaning” done on a regular basis.  So the deep cleans take a bit of time and are pretty obnoxious.  And I just can’t stand it.  Because I’m stuck in this stupid tiny room.  Breathing in the lovely scent of clorox and scrubbing my life away miserably.  But I did it.  And you can now even lick the floors with no worries.  For real.  I dare you…

Since my long running day got pushed to Sunday, I decided my Monday night workout would be some light cross training versus my standard run (that has worked it’s way to an average of 5 miles now).  I did a combo of elliptical, weights, and the stairmill over about 45 minutes.  Had to get out of there quick- cleaning had to be done!

Oh and I’m totally counting scrubbing the shower and bathroom floors as resistance training.  Just so you know.

You should also know I fueled my cleaning frenzy and crosstraining with some veggie love:I brought back the asparagus sandwich for an encore performance.  With mushrooms and green beans on the side- mmmm…  And I bet I won’t even notice the funny asparagus pee smell thanks to the clorox that is still fuming from the bathroom sink and toilet…

I’ll probably be taking tonight off.  Even though it’s not planned. *Gasp!!!*  I’ve got about 20 things before some of my good friends from high school come to visit that I want to get done and only a few of the things are actually going to happen.  And I’m bound and determined to be the hostess with the mostess while the girls are here.  Because they’re my lovely ladies and need to be treated as such!  It’s ok.  Just so you know, I totally got up early and shredded with Jillian Michaels this morning.  Level 2 because it’s the one I love to hate.  So not all is lost.  Hell yeah…

Lastly, just so you know, you cannot- I repeat- cannot recover from not paying attention to what song is playing when you have the windows down and you’re stuck in traffic.  Here I was zoning out (but still paying attention to the road- I swear!) and came to when I saw two guys next to me smirking.  I’d smirk, too.  Somehow I missed Sir Mix-A-Lot coming on and I was currently in the middle of blasting “I like big butts”.  Blasting.  Yeah… you can’t come back from that.  At all.  Thank god I was wearing my stunna’ shades.  Eye contact would have just made me want to die right there.

Well it’s Tuesday.  And you know how I dislike Tuesdays… ick.

How am I combating it?  One of the things I’m trying to get done tonight is some baking!  Gotta keep the houseguests happy, right?  (Plus, I work with mostly guys and they’ve been nagging me about the next time I’m bringing stuff in…)

I’m  doing cookies tonight.  What’s your favorite?  I’m usually all about the classic chocolate chip, but I’m thinking I may mix it up a little…  Have a good one, kids! (Or at least try- it is Tuesday afterall…)

Overwhelmed

Hey kiddos… how was your Tuesday?  Mine was lame.  I know you wondered…  ;)

First off, thanks for all the comments.  Not to freak anyone out about salt intake, I just like to keep it lower (being as how many foods have sodium in it already without me adding it in).  Because no one likes that gross “salt hangover” the next day.  I’ve had it one too many times…  And I do want to point out- I love gnocchi.  LOVE it.  It’s by far my favorite pasta.  But I just wasn’t a fan of that particular brand.  I still have high hopes for sweet potato gnocchi.  And will stuff my face research more to find a better kind.  :)  I don’t mean to scare anyone away from trying gnocchi- because seriously, it rocks.

So anyhoo, why was Tuesday lame?

Welllll…. work was nuts.  Without getting too into it, we’ve got a big event coming up and it seems that trying to stay on top of it and organized is just mission impossible.  I think my lovely friend Mon read my mind because I got an email from her that afternoon that basically said, “it’s Tuesday.  Just reminding you to take a breath.”  I needed that.

I also needed to dip into that chocolate collection from Prague that she left for me last week.  Seriously needed that, too.

What else did I need?  A lunch hour with no talking.  Just reading.  And my super sassy salad, of course…Yeah, I’m desperately trying to use up all the cauliflower before it goes bad.  I swear it’s like I do it on purpose when I’m grocery shopping.  I get over-excited with all the fresh produce.  And here I am scrambling to get it all eaten and not waste… But I digress.

What’s a pretty regular addition to your salads?  (And you can’t say “lettuce”- that’s cheating)  I think broccoli or squash are the two that show up the most in mine… not sure if that’s because I think they’re awesome in salads or because I just really really like them on their own?  Hmmm… deep thoughts for the day…

The book, Cocktails for Three, is still going well.  I’ll admit, it was a little slow for me to get into.  But now I’m a few chapters from the end.  And am seriously curious about what’s going to happen.  Thanks for the recommendation, Jill:)

I crept in traffic the whole way home.  I blame this partially on the rain and partially on the construction.  Stupid orange cones… all I want to do is plow over them and drive through the construction.  My uncle calls it “orange city”.  I call it “orange shitty”.  Because I’m clearly more vulgar than he is.

Finally I got to the gym for a good session.  Ahhhh… is it weird I find relaxation in the gym?  I’m sure the majority of you guys would say no.  I’m sure the rest of the people I know would say yes.  That’s ok.  Us healthy living bloggers are kinda crazy- don’t you agree?  ;)  Elliptical for 32 minutes.  32- again with my random numbers.  I sort of find it fun now.  I also did 16 on the stairmill.  No running was included today.  Because I did spend a little more time on the other cardio machines and also because there was another girl using the good treadmill.  I wasn’t crying about it, though.  It gave me a reason to focus more on arm weights (free weights and machines) and spent much more time on my abs.  It’s all about the core work, right?

Dinner was a veggie wrap.  With veggies on the side.  It was veggie-tabulous.  I would have taken a pic, but I was on the phone catching up with one of my fav girls, and sort of missed the chance.  So I’ll show you breakfast instead:Oats in a Jar.  Seriously one of the best things I’ve picked up from the blogs.  Sure it tastes good, but I just really like eating it like I’m 12.  Because sometimes I think while my body is aging one way, my mind is going in reverse.  I’ll admit it.  But I’m not concerned.  I have a lot of fun this way.  :)  Anyways, this concoction had oatmeal, almond butter, Special K, and coconut.  This seems to be my “go-to” combo out of all my oatmeal creations.  And just so you know, the coconut is key.

My usual rest days are on Thursdays, but I’m switching it up a little bit this week.  After the work day was over, Mon and I agreed a wine night would need to come sooner than later.  Sooner as in tonight.  You gotta do what you gotta do…

Welcome to the hump day, my friends.  I assume my day will be similar to yesterday.  Good because the day flies.  Bad because I’m stressed because the day flies.  But ahhhhh…. that’s life.  :)

A Sweaty Mess

So I guess none of  us know why you would yell “Avatar” during a heavy lifting session?  Makes you wonder what other random things he shouts at random times… no?

The commute that was over twice as long as it usually averages did not suck the life out of me like I thought it would.  But the wind did.  Oh my word… the wind was nuts last night.  But I just huffed and puffed through it.  All 4.1 miles.  Every time another runner and I met on the trail, we gave each other a “yeah this kinda sucks, but you can do it” smile and little wave.  Gotta love friendly runners.  Often I think I don’t look like one.  It’s hard to manage a smile when you’re concentrating on finding your pace and breathing.  And I always have shades on (the bugs are straight up dangerous to my vision!).  But I try to give a little wave as we acknowledge one another.  I think usually they see it.

I was bound and determined to get in a killer workout, so I did a little tread and shred.  After I got home from the run, I popped in Level 2 of The Shred.  And used my yoga mat because I was just gross.  But I got it done. This is what a hot mess looks like.  In case you were wondering.  You may not see it, but there was definitely sweat running down my arms.  I. Am. Sexy.

Oh and you may wonder why I always stick my tongue out for the camera.  I didn’t notice until recently.  I think it’s a nervous reflex.  I feel really awkward taking self portraits.  So I think it’s a way of making fun of myself.  But that’s just my guess.

Today is my rest day and I plan to fully take advantage of it.  My dear friend Annie‘s birthday is Monday and I’m baking a cake for her to take to work over the weekend.  It’s her coworker’s birthday, too.  And since their birthday falls on Flag Day (yes, it’s like a patriotic warm-up for 4th of July), her only requests were to have their names and the american flag incorporated.  I like when people let me loose to decorate however I please.  I think it went well for Jaime’s wedding cake.  I like the challenge.  :)

And speaking of food…

As my training gets longer, does anyone have any good tips/suggestions of what I should/should not be including in my diet?  Good for energy?  Bad for energy?  I’m always open for new suggestions.  Except for fruit… don’t tell me to eat fruit.  I won’t do it.  ;)

Oh and before I leave you on this lovely Thursday, I just have to say one thing…

GO BLACKHAWKS!

Just thought I’d throw that out there…

Blown Away

Almost.  That was a great concern when I hit the trail at the forest preserve after work last night.  How is it possible that the trail is a loop and I was against the wind the majority of the time?  Seriously… I feel that physics would debate this.  But it happened.

And I swallowed a bug.  No need to eat meat for the rest of the week… my protein needs have been met.

The loop is 2.8 miles.  And despite the forces of nature, I trudged through it all.  So when Mon texted me for a Tuesday Suckday drink, I happily obliged.  I needed to finish off and get rid of that bottle of wine in the refrigerator anyways… ;)

Before the wine, I was able to cook this mean dish up:Spinach and feta wrap with zuchinni.  I picked up some wraps yesterday and am sure I’ll be making the most of them this week!  Which means I will be using them pretty much every other meal until they’re gone so they don’t go bad.  Anyways, the spinach wrap was A-mazing.  I sauteed the spinach beforehand- I sort of prefer it that way over raw when I’m given the choice.

Oh and I’m glad I’m not the only crazy who frequents the grocery store like it’s my hangout…  Being as how I cook for just myself most of the time, I find it necessary to do so if I want to eat fresh.  Because I’ve tried stocking up and only going once a week.  This ends up with me going nuts trying to cook as much as I can the first few days and then everything else going bad before I can get to it.  So lately I’ve found that buying one or two fresh things at a time and incorporating them into a few meals with other things works best.  Any other tips for the single lady in the kitchen?

Ok guys, we’re halfway through.  So let’s put on a happy face, shall we?  ;)Just so you know, this isn’t my happy face.  This is my “I just watched the news and traffic is a standstill in every which direction”.  Ugh.
